The Australian Government has committed $440 million of planned equity to create a network of Regional Logistics Hubs across the Northern Territory to support development of industries and communities in our regions.

With a focus on upgrading the capacity of the existing network, the Regional Logistics Hubs will support different modes of transport to improve local supply chains and connection to the national transport network.

The project will strategically locate terminals, rail sidings, warehousing and other enabling infrastructure along the Darwin-Tarcoola rail line, increasing supply chain capacity and reliability to benefit communities and boost employment in remote and regional areas.

An evidence base has been developed following significant industry consultation to map the freight requirements of existing and developing projects across the Territory and the gaps in the supply chain to enable them to reach market.

Improving rail efficiency and capacity of different freight transport will reduce the predominance of trucks being used to transport freight over long distances in the Territory, which will improve the environmental footprint and reduce the transport carbon footprint.

The project is expected to generate long-term employment opportunities and contribute to the growth of the population and economy in northern Australia.

The infrastructure will support the development and operation of projects in resources, agriculture, renewable energy and construction, which is essential to the Northern Territory Government’s goal of achieving a $40 billon economy by 2030.
