The Gove Port Development Plan is being created to identify potential opportunities to use existing port infrastructure and facilities at Gove Port as Rio Tinto undertakes its closure plans for bauxite mining operations by 2030, including potential removal of its assets.
This plan will consider how all planned and existing Government and privately owned marine and landside infrastructure can be adapted to complement and support existing and growing new economic activity.
The master plan will seek to explore all opportunities to retain or recycle assets to realise a sustainable landside and maritime precinct to diversify the economy for the East Arnhem region and offer ongoing employment and business opportunities.
