NT Infrastructure Audit 2023

Infrastructure NT commissioned an Infrastructure Audit to provide an evidence base to make sure our existing and future infrastructure needs are captured to achieve the Northern Territory Government’s vision of a $40 billion economy by 2030.

Infrastructure NT commissioned an Infrastructure Audit to provide an evidence base to make sure our existing and future infrastructure needs are captured to achieve the Northern Territory Government’s vision to reduce crime, rebuild the economy and restore lifestyle. The Audit covered transport and logistics, utilities, social infrastructure and serviced land across all regions of the Territory.

The NT Infrastructure Audit 2023 was conducted in a three phase approach:

  • Phase 1 included a desktop review of existing material
  • Phase 2 involved a comprehensive stakeholder consultation process, including collaborating and partnering with a range of diverse stakeholders to capture a wide range of feedback on how infrastructure can be used to respond to the Territory’s opportunities and challenges.
  • Phase 3 involved detailed analysis of the identified gaps as well as prioritising the implementation pathways by identifying reforms, better use of existing, upgrading existing or new infrastructure.

The Audit 2023 identifies six key themes that came through strongly in stakeholder engagement. Stakeholders identified the need for:

  • increased digital connectivity
  • increased housing and accommodation supply
  • ongoing delivery of utilities, particularly to address water security, and land servicing
  • increased asset maintenance and funding
  • increased land availability
  • increased physical connectivity (road, rail, air, sea).
